A Swedish - Brazilian Initiative

2nd Workshop on Innovative Engineering for Fluid Power:
Applications in Aircraft, Vehicles and Energy (Wind, Hydroelectricity and Oil & Gas)

September 2 - 3, 2014
ABIMAQ Headquarters, Av. Jabaquara, 2925, São Paulo

On September 2nd and 3rd, academics, entrepreneurs and professionals from major industries gathered at the headquarters of the Brazilian Association of Machinery and Equipment (ABIMAQ) to attend the 2nd Workshop on Innovation in Engineering for Hydraulic & Pneumatic Systems: applications in aircraft, vehicle systems and energy (wind, hydroelectricity and oil & gas).

The objective of this workshop is to be a permanent forum for discussion between business and academia, both Brazilian and foreign, to address technological advances and innovation possibilities brought by market needs.

The Technologies in Hydraulics and Pneumatics use the force of a fluid, either liquid or gas, as a means of transmitting energy to accomplish control and handling equipment. Examples of application of this technology can be found in landing gear of aircraft, backhoes, wind turbines and industrial machinery.

Organized by Centro de Pesquisa e Inovação Sueco-Brasileira (CISB), Câmara Setorial de Hidráulica Pneumática e Automação (CSHPA) da ABIMAQ, Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC), Linkoping University (Liu) and the Universidade Federal do ABC (UFABC), the event was coordinated by professors Victor Juliano De Negri (UFSC/LASHIP), Petter Krus (LiU/FLUMES) and Luciana Pereira (UFABC/ILab@UFABC).

The workshop started at 8:30 am. Among the sessions presented were: Power Generation; Vehicle Systems; Design and Systems Development; Aircraft systems; Education, Research and Innovation; and Applications Oil & Gas. Each session consisted of three or four subthemes.

To address each of these issues, representatives of large companies and national and international universities, were present. The industry view was given by Brigitta Lantto, Saab AB; Roberson Oliveira, Volvo; Mario Maia Neto, Embraer; Fabio Orefice, Siemens / LMS; Waldir Vianna Junior and Achim Pfeifer, from Argo-HYTOS; Mario Valdo, from Moog; Cristiano Coimbra, Parker Hannifin; Wagner Mattos, Bosch Rexroth; Alexande L. Pereira, Proventos and Dirceu Sampaio, Petrobras.

From the academic side there was the participation of teachers such as Daniel Martins Yesid Asaff Mendoza, UFSC; Orestes Alarcon and Anita Dedding, UFSC and IPDMAQ, André Eduardo Perondi, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS); Amir Oliveira and Rafael Bravo, UFSC and IFSC; Magnus Sehson and Ingo Staack, University of Linköping and Luis Sandoval Goes, Technological Institute of Aeronautics (ITA). Ronaldo Danzel, SENAI Institute of Innovation and Flavia Gutierrez Motta, the Institute for Technological Research (IPT) addressed aspects of research and development.
